Tronti Oy - A distrubitor Profile

TRONTI OY is a major importer of materials and machines needed for PCB manufacture

TRONTI OY imports and distributes materials and machines for PCB manufacture to customers in Finland and the Baltic area. Its product range covers materials and machines needed during the the various stages of production; from CAM software to solder masks. There are about 17 PCB factories in Finland and a handful in the Baltic area.

Stig Tronti used to sell Coates Circuit Products products, starting initially in 1978, until 1983, through Lehab Ab of Sweden. In 1984, he established Tronti Oy (then called Tronti Ky). In 1994 Tronti Ky became a limited company and the name was changed to Tronti Oy. The company started with two people: Stig, and his daughter Susan. Later, both his sons, Mikael & Tom, joined the company. Today, the team is still together and this energetic and enterprising supplier still comprises the original four.

In 1991 Coates contacted Stig, asking if he would be interested in marketing Coates products again: 'No doubt about it¹, was the response and so this valuable co-operation became a fact again and the work to bring Coates to a wider share of PCB manufacturers in Finland started. This hard work has even resulted in some awards along the years: in 1992-1993, the Coates Distributor Award for Wider Customer Service and 1998 1999, the Imagecure Sales Award. Today, Tronti serves about 80% of PCB producers in Finland, supplying 50% of the ink quantity used. As Stig says, Œwe find Coates products are among our most popular, representing about 35% of our business¹.

We asked him to explain what makes a good supply source for the industry. ŒDistribution¹, he said, Œis all important. Coates products are distributed from our well located 250 m2 stock in Espoo, where our office is also established. Some materials, like laminates and copper foils that we are selling, are usually shipped directly to customers. But we keep a selection of laminates in different thickness on stock as well. We know how critical fast response can sometimes be!¹

ŒIn order to keep up our competitive position and our customer contacts established over the years, we continually emphasise the importance of customer service and flexibility.

A major part of our work is to provide our customers with technical expertise and constant follow up of product development, so that we are always ready to offer customers better and improved materials for PCB manufacture. The competition is an everyday fact and customers are very quality conscious.¹

We asked Stig how things look in Finland at the moment, ŒThe market has been good so far,¹ he reflected, Œbut signs of unstableness can be perceived. The changing situation in the IT field is naturally affecting the whole branch of electronics. In spite of this, the forecast for 2001 in Finland is that the use of solder mask will increase by up to 25 % because of PCB manufacturers¹ increases in production capacity

Because good product and technical knowledge are so important in the circuits industry, the MFS team has spent considerable time at Coates in advance, undergoing the company¹s customary initial product training.

MFS has served the printed circuit industry for many years. The MD there, Mike Teagles, was just as enthusiastic about the new arrangement, not just for what it meant for the future relationship of the companies, but because of the significance to the UK industry. We asked Mike to comment on the development, 'We are very pleased to be associated with Coates Circuit Products,¹ he said, 'its product range, together with our existing product lines, completes a portfolio of 'imaging¹ products, at the forefront of circuit technology.
