ScreenMatch was recently launched in the UK by Coates Screen and Coates Digital, at the recent RoadShows¹. This promising new product is an ideal introduction to the wider opportunities of digital technology for the display printer.
Many a screen printer has looked at the range of wide format digital printers available today, looked at their customer base and type of business, and, not unnaturally, thought '.. so what¹s in it for me?¹ True, some output devices require a dedication to particular markets, and a high level of IT skill to get the sums to add up, or at least need a prospective purchaser to determine that they will grow their business in a particular direction.

We have always recognised this, but have not shrunk from presenting the right opportunities for consideration. The latest result has been
ScreenMatch. The possibility of adapting a digital printer to have specific benefits for screen printers as a cost effective multi-functional unit is being widely welcomed. ScreenMatch installations are now being made throughout Europe, in response to the strength of this unique concept. Digital Print ScreenMatch produces film positives for screen printing, bringing an important production requirement in-house, and has a further use as a straightforward output device for producing commercially saleable digital print. Maximum print width for the standard machine is a very useful 42.9", and greater widths of 52" and 62" are also available. As well as being suitable for PVC banners for outdoor use, and running as happily with pigmented inks, it prints on a selection of treated and untreated boards commonly used for digital printing. These include most backlit stocks, self
adhesive vinyls, and blue-back bllboard papers, giving it great versatility for short run graphics work depending on stock selected, lamination is not necessary, and use of particular boards can also eliminate the need for subsequent print mounting.
The ScreenMatch digital printer is an adaptation of an existing printer, and has been also developed to provide low cost, colour accurate proofs that most importantly have a screen dot. This means the proofs are suitable for showing to print buyers and other customers, and - since the unit is in-house - are quickly and economically available.
Already, ScreenMatch looks like making a powerful contribution in several display printers in the UK and arrangements are in hand to widen availability. Describing it as one of our hottest new products is no exaggeration, in fact, as a new Coates Digital pudding¹, it is probably all
you¹d expect.
