A Digital Commitment in Australasia

Coates Screen opens a local digital facility to serve growing local businesses.

Coates Digital is dedicated to the development and supply of digital print systems and consumables. It draws on resources and experience within the Group, as a major supplier to both the large format and non-impact print industries. This year, Coates Digitalıs activity has been expanded to include service to Australian and New Zealand printers.

In both locations, Coates Screen is dedicated to digital printing, and feels that this complements the existing screen printing business in many ways.  As Brett Turner, Product Manager, Screen Inks Marketing, in Sydney, says, "We intend to service this rapidly expanding area of work with sophisticated equipment, inks, and suitable print media. Not only are we going to be supplying world-class products, we will provide world-class service from the point of enquiry through to after-sales production. The success of this division hinges on our service, and on our understanding that lesson one for any digital supplier is that urgent means urgent, not just once but ten-fold".

The new division started work on 1st July, and has been well received by the many customers
to have already visited the fully equipped showroom at the Coates Wetherill Park sales and distribution center. This facility is designed to cater for all aspects of digital print and origination, and is scheduled to grow with demand.

The latest ColorMark Pro 5000 print server along with the wide format DisplayMaker Series XII printer have been installed. Serviced with Macıs and a range of application software, the unit can receive files and demonstrate the features and technical and commercial advantages of this superb equipment on a variety of substrates to suit customersı needs. "Customers can try before they buy," is a promise Turner set from the outset. "We were well aware of the technical support requirements to serve digital customers, which is why we have not only built a solid foundation and partnership with MacDermid ColorSpan, but also brought in Mathew Philp, formerly of ColorSpan Europe".

Mathew will be invaluable in this role, and in the building stages of this new division, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to bear. Mathew and his young family have moved into the Hills district in the NW of Sydney, and are currently acclimatizing after one of the warmest of European summers. Mathew has lived in Amsterdam for the last 19 years, where he specialised in digital, computer and electro-mechanical devices. For the past 6 years, he has applied his skills to digital printing equipment, and is now regarded as an industry expert. In the last 3 years, he has used this background to train ColorSpan technical staff, as well as conducting field support to customers and advising on countless installations throughout Europe.

Mathew describes himself as a roaming Canadian with hobbies as diverse as rollerblading, building and installing hardware systems,  carpentry, clothes design and music. Born in 1957, moving to South Africa in 1970, to Amsterdam in 1981 and now to Australia, he is now settled to the extent that one of the few remaining adjustments he is working on is to the 375 ml Australian beer bottle. We hear it takes time! Certainly local customers are free to contact Mathew to discuss bottle sizes or digital applications (mobile; 0408 678 838, or on 9757 7444).
